Sri Lanka,
Unscripted.
Private journeys through an island of wild landscapes, living culture and extraordinary encounters.
Why Island Route
01
Locally owned
Run from the island by the people who drive it. No overseas call centre, no agency taking a margin in the middle.
02
Private
Your own vehicle and chauffeur-guide for the whole journey. Leave at first light, stay a second night, change the plan over breakfast.
03
Direct
You talk to the people who plan and drive your trip — before, during and after it. The same names, start to finish.

Explore Sri Lanka
One island, seven very different countries
Two opposing monsoons and a central mountain range mean the island is never doing only one thing at once. Choose a region and see what it does best.

Your chauffeur-guide
The island is
someone's home
Every Island Route journey travels with a chauffeur-guide — one person, for the whole trip, who grew up on these roads.
- A guide, not a driver
- The person at the wheel is the same person showing you around — so the story at a temple, the reason a road is closed and the best time to arrive all come from one place.
- The same person throughout
- One guide for the whole journey. By day three they know how you travel: when you want the history and when you'd rather just watch the road.
- Local knowledge, not a script
- Where to stop for lunch, which viewpoint is worth the climb today, when to leave to beat the coach parties. None of it is in a guidebook.

How long
- How does pricing work?
- Every journey is built around your dates, pace and choice of stays, so there is no fixed shelf price. Tell us what you have in mind and you'll get a clear, itemised quote — what's included, what isn't, and no commission built into the route.
- How far ahead should I book?
- For December to March on the south and west coasts, and for July and August, earlier is genuinely better — the best drivers and rooms go first. Outside those windows a few weeks is usually comfortable. If you're already close to your dates, message us anyway and we'll tell you honestly what's still possible.
- What if my plans change?
- Itineraries are a starting point, not a contract with the road. Stay an extra night, skip something, add a detour your guide suggests — changes during the trip are handled between you and your chauffeur-guide. If dates move before you travel, talk to us early and we'll do what we can.
